You can use carbon if you like, or just a piece of composite laminated material with epoxy resin. We would laminate the shelf just above the flange and carry it to the back of the nacelle. This spreads the load of the tramp and jib bridle out to the outboard side of the hull and creates an I beam which is very strong. We would carry the edges forward a few inches on each side but taper them so it does not interfere with the opening and stowing of gear. If you want I will make sketch and fax it to you.
