The masthead halyard is about 6 feet above the reacher halyard. The luff of the sail can vary depending on the cut, but the fractional sail will be approx. 32 feet and have 600 sq. ft. and the masthead will have a luff of approx. 38 feet and have 750 sq. ft. If your boat is not rigged with backstays, this may mean the boat has fractional sails. If you hoist them on the fractional halyard and they are still laying on the deck, they must be masthead! Just be sure to use the backstays, so as to avoid a mast failure.
